The QCDA rating system
The QCDA uses a proprietary rating system to help place darters of similiar skill together in a division.
Getting a rating
If you want to play in the QCDA you have to obtain a rating by two QCDA rating committee members. The average of their two scores is your rating. For most people new to darts the rating is somewhere around 300. Sometimes people are under-rated, and other times over-rated. However, after the first season, the rating generally adjusts to the proper level.
Increasing your rating
The way you increase your rating is by beating people and taking their points. If you beat someone and your rating increases by 10 points, the other persons rating will decrease by 10 points. Basically, if you added everyone's rating up for the division before and after the season the total would be the same, with exceptions for rounding differences and substitutes giving or taking points out of the division.
How to maximize the points you receive(and minimize the points you lose)
The amount of points you receive for a win or lose for a loss, depends on three things:
The greater your opponent's rating is over your rating, the more points you gain for a win and the less points you lose for a loss. Basically, you are rewarded more for beating people rated higher than you and punished less for losing to people who higher rated than you.
The greater your rating is over your opponent's rating, the less points you get for a win and the more points you lose for a loss. Basically, you are rewarded less for beating people rated lower than you and punished more for losing to people who are rated lower than you.
The winner of a match is the person that wins two (2) games first. You could either win with 2 wins and 0 losses or 2 wins and 1 loss.
*Now the reason there is an asterisk beside 2-1 and 1-2 is because you can actually lose points if you win 2-1. It is because sometimes people are rated so much lower than you, that you should not even lose 1 game out of 3, so you are penalized. You can also gain points if you lose 1-2, because it is just the opposite of the previous example. You were so much of an underdog that you were not even suppose to win 1 game out of 3, so you are rewarded.

The rating calculator can approximate how much your rating will increase or decrease when playing against different rated darters.
